IDC's Chief Executive Officer Glenny Savy has highlighted the company's endeavours to restore the infrastructure of Farquhar following the devastation caused by Cyclon Fantala. Mr Savy told a news conference “We are not only rebuilding most of our infrastructures, but we are upgrading them to ensure our workers can be protected if ever we are hit by another cyclone.”
It is anticipated that the new buildings will be capabe of withstandibg winds of up to 300 kph. A World Bank team that visited Farquhar shartly after the cyclone estimated Fantala caused US$4.5 million in damages and losses on Farquhar. All buildings other than the purpose built cyclone shelter were destroyed by this natural catastrophe.
